Your voice goes to the service you choose. These hear the most languages.
If your cursor is in a password box, Kalam does not read it. Open a password manager and it keeps the listening on your computer, blocks the clean-up step, and stops rather than sending anything online. Only your voice goes to a speech service, never the page around your cursor.
What you have said is saved here, and you choose how long to keep it. If you use your own speech service, its key is saved here too, scrambled before it is ever sent. Copying history to your other computers is part of Pro.
Before you install, the beta policy spells out what that means for your data. Usage data is off unless you switch it on.

Only if you pick a cloud service. Run the speech software on your own computer — SenseVoice, Whisper Base, Parakeet or Moonshine — and your voice never leaves it. Pick Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, Deepgram, AssemblyAI or ElevenLabs and it does. Kalam also saves a short copy of each recording so you can play it back later. It keeps them for seven days, and you can turn that off.
Ctrl and Win together by default on Windows, and Ctrl and Alt on the other platforms. Every hotkey is changeable in Settings, and you can switch between hold-to-talk and press-to-toggle.
Windows 11 and above, Linux, and macOS, all as beta today. Stable builds are coming soon. The Download page lists every current build with its version and file size.
No. Your built-in microphone is enough. If you dictate very quietly or somewhere loud, moving the mic closer to your mouth helps more than any other change. Bluetooth earbuds tend to clip the start of a word, so they are the one thing worth avoiding.
The microphone, permission to type into your other apps, and notifications so it can tell you when something went wrong. Windows and macOS may show a warning the first time you open it. That is normal for a beta that is not sold in the app store.
No. Kalam is a desktop app from Balacode, sold as a licence. It is not a repackaged open-source Whisper tray.
